Bar Spoons Vs. Swizzle Sticks Vs. Sip Stirrers
ShareAs you stock up on supplies for your new bar that's about to open, you get to play around a bit with the stirrers you'll keep on hand. There are a few different types, most of which are meant to be used by the customer, but your bartenders will need long-handled bar spoons. Whether you need to get bar spoons, swizzle sticks, sip stirrers, or another type of cocktail stirrer, look for items that match what your bar is about.
Don't Forget the Bar Spoons
Customers might use cocktail stirrers to keep the different ingredients in the drink mixed, but when the bartender is mixing the drink up for them to begin with, a bar spoon is best for them. Don't make the bartender resort to picking up a stirrer when things get busy; make sure you have bar spoons with twisted-pattern handles for smooth mixing.
Swizzle Sticks as Fun and Drink Identification
If you're not going to need spoons, but you want something fun that your customers will enjoy using, swizzle sticks are perfect cocktail stirrers – and they can function as drink identification, too. Swizzle sticks can be made of different material, but plastic or wood are common. Plastic swizzle sticks can be particularly creative and colorful. If you have groups of customers at your bar, by the way, the customers can use swizzle sticks to identify whose drink is whose if one of them is picking up the drinks at the bar and bringing them back to the rest of the group. Place a swizzle stick in each completed cocktail, with a certain color or pattern associated with a different type of drink, and let the customer know which is which.
Sip Stirrers for When You Want Neatness and a Great Bulk Buy
Cocktail stirrers sound like they should be fancy, but they don't have to be. If you're not interested in getting swizzle sticks, then the alternative is a sip stirrer, that narrow straw that initially looks too thin to use for sipping. But, as the name "sip stirrer" implies, they are meant to be used as straws once the drinker is done stirring the liquid in the glass. Typically you'll find that the stirrers meant for cocktails are understated in terms of color and pattern; you might have all-black sip stirrers, for example.
You can get all of these items in bulk and/or wholesale. That will save you money and ensure you've got a good supply that will last for some time.
